The Overseas Chinese of the United Kingdom celebrated the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on September 17, at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London, with more than 400 attendees. Guests include the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Minister Mr. Zhu Qin, Cultural Minister Counsellor Mr. Xiang Xiaowei, Counsellor Mr. Lu Haitian, Consul Mr. Wang Xiaowei and Consul Ms. Gao Yan; Cllr. Lindsey Hall, Lord Mayor of Westminster, London; Ms. Priscilla To, Director-General of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, and Deputy Director-General Mr. Kasper Ng, as well as representatives from various overseas Chinese Community organizations. Altogether, they celebrated the success and advancement of 40th Anniversary of the reform and opening up of China.
全英华侨华人庆祝中华人民共和国成立69周年庆典，9月17日在伦敦肯盛顿的皇家花园酒店盛大举行，共400多人出席。嘉宾包括中国驻英国大使馆祝勤公使、文化公参项晓炜、卢海田参赞、王霄巍领事和高岩领事等，伦敦西敏巿市长Lindsey Hall，香港特区驻伦敦经贸办杜洁丽处长和吴肇基副处长，以及来自新老侨领、商企和各界代表，场面隆重欢盛，祝贺今年祖国改革开放四十周年「成功猛进」。

The Confederation of Chinese Associations UK convened the celebration, VIPs attending include the Chairman of London Chinatown Association, Chu Ting Tang OBE, the President of Confederation of Chinese Associations UK, Kevin Ka Man Tsang, and New Territories Heung Yee Kuk Overseas Advisory Committee, European Liaison Office, President Lam To Ming. Other business and community leaders including Di Jinhai, Joseph Chow, Song Wenli, Yang Jian, Lawrence Lo, David Tang, Lawrence Li, James Tsang, Ren Guangfeng, Sean Xu, City of London Councillor Munsur Ali and Tim Mitchell, and Mdm Mei Sim Lai OBE DL.

After the honor guards played the national anthems of China and Britain, Chairman of UK Chinese Celebration of 69 China National Day Preparatory Committee, Mdm Huang Ping, gave a welcome speech: “China, you came from ancient times, the waves washed away the dust; you rushed to the future, the waves echoed outside the sky. We have not only had the prosperous Han and Tang cultures, but also technological innovation is leading in the world. In these sixty-nine years, Chinese people have created a brilliant moment after another with loyalty, wisdom, and diligence. Industries developed, the southeast coastal cities rise rapidly; technology developed, the Spaceship Shenzhou 11 triumphantly lifted. The national anthem frequently played in the Beijing Olympics; from rural contracting to urban economic system reform, from the creation of Shenzhen Special Zone to joining the WTO. From the coastal side to the development of the western region, from the free trade pilot zone to the “Belt and Road” construction, the reform and opening up has brought the Chinese nation to vigorous life.”
在仪仗队高奏中英两国国歌後，黄萍主委致欢迎词称：「中国，你从远古走来，巨浪荡涤着尘埃; 你向未来奔去，涛声回荡在天外。我们不仅有过繁荣的汉唐文化，更有如今的大国重器频现，科技创新领先。在这六十九年里，中国人民以忠诚、智慧和勤劳，创造了一个又一个辉煌的时刻。改革开放带来了工业发展，东南沿海城市迅速崛起；科技发达，宇宙飞船神舟11号胜利升空；北京奥运会上，国歌频频奏响；从农村联产承包到城市经济体制改革，从创建深圳特区到加入世界贸易组织，从沿海沿边开放到西部大开发，从自由贸易试验区到＂一带一路＂建设，改革开放使中华民族焕发出勃勃生机。」

She continued: “2018 is the year of accelerating the “Golden Age Era” of Sino-British relations and the fifth anniversary of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. In the past five years, China has cooperated with the countries along the “Belt and Road” to build a bridge of friendship and cooperation. Through infrastructure construction, like the launch of CHINA RAILWAY Express, we will promote policy coordination, facility connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and strengthen people-to-people ties, and build a path to joint prosperity. Overseas Chinese would not forget the ancestors and has become a friendly messenger connecting China and the world, making important contributions to the development of China and China’s peaceful reunification, and enhancing friendly cooperation between the Chinese people and the people of all nations. The unified Chinese nation is the common root of Chinese people at home and abroad. The profound Chinese culture is the common soul of the Chinese people at home and abroad. Realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is the common dream of the Chinese people at home and abroad. The new era needs new roles and new actions. May we take advantage of this east wind and seize development opportunities to contribute wisdom and strength to the interests of the British and Chinese. Let us unite and integrate into the British mainstream society, tell the story of China, spread the voice of China, and jointly write a new chapter in the historical process of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and promote the building of a community with a shared future.”
她又称：「2018是中英关系＂黄金时代＂加速推进之年，也是＂一带一路＂倡议提出五周年。五年来，中国与＂一带一路＂沿线国家共搭合作之桥、友谊之路，通过基础设施建设、开通中欧班列和打造＂空中走廊＂，推动政策沟通、设施联通、贸易畅通、资金融通、民心相通，串联起共同繁荣的发展之路。海外华侨华人不忘祖（籍）国，成为连接中国与世界的友好使者，为中华民族发展壮大、促进中国和平统一大业、增进中国人民同各国人民的友好合作作出重要贡献。团结统一的中华民族是海内外中华儿女共同的根，博大精深的中华文化是海内外中华儿女共同的魂，实现中华民族伟大复兴是海内外中华儿女共同的梦。新时代要有新担当、新作为。愿我们趁着这东风，抓住发展机遇，多为在英华人的利益贡献才智和心力。让我们团结起来，融入英国主流社会，讲好中国故事，传播好中国声音，共同为实现中华民族伟大复兴、推动构建人类命运共同体的历史进程谱写新篇章。」

Minister Mr. Zhu Qin said the 40 years of reform and opening up is a magnificent chapter in the history of China’s development. China persists in reform and opening up, promotes growth through improvement, integrates into the world through openness, and writes a magnificent epic of national development and progress and national prosperity. China has leaped to become the world’s second largest economy, the largest cargo trading country, the largest industrial country, and the largest foreign exchange reserve country.
祝勤公使以题為《胸怀伟大梦想 共创美好未来》致词称，改革开放40年是中国发展史上波澜壮阔的篇章。中国坚持改革开放不动摇，以改革促进发展，以开放融入世界，书写了国家发展进步、民族富强振兴的壮丽史诗。中国已跃升成为全球第二大经济体、第一大货物贸易国、第一大工业国和第一大外汇储备国。

He added: “China adheres to peaceful development, win-win cooperation and has made important contributions to world peace and prosperity. China is the country with the largest number of peacekeepers among the permanent members of the UN Security Council, and her United Nations peacekeeping (assessment?) ranks second in the world. The total share of the world economy has risen to 15%, the contribution rate to world economic growth has exceeded 30%, whereas the contribution rate to global poverty reduction has exceeded 70%.”

“We will continue to open up, and the wind and rain will surely usher in a more brilliant tomorrow. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has opened a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In this new era, China will adhere to reform and opening up, implement new development concepts, and promote economic development. Increase efficiency, pay more attention to improving people’s livelihood and welfare, pay more attention to social fairness and justice, and continuously enhance the people’s sense of acquisition, happiness and security. He continued: “Since this year, international unilateralism, protectionism has risen, and the world economy and trade situation is facing severe challenges. The Chinese government and people have maintained their strengths and faced challenges, and the Chinese economy continues to maintain its stability. China is still one of the countries with the best development, the greatest potential and the most resilience in the world. China is determined to actively support multilateralism and free trade are sturdy, and the pace of openness, tolerance, and cooperation. Not long ago, the Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum was successfully held in Beijing, attended by more than 50 African leaders and representatives of more than 20 international organizations. The summit set a new paradigm for promoting mutual assistance and mutual benefit for developing countries. To promote the reform of the global governance system and build a community of human destiny, we have made new contributions to the new domestic and international situation. The development in China is growing steadily, and confidently. We are full of confidence in China’s future!”
他续称：「今年以来，国际上单边主义、保护主义抬头，贸易战阴云笼罩，世界经济、贸易形势面临严峻挑战。中国政府和人民保持定力，直面挑战，中国经济继续持稳中向好态势。中国仍然是世界上发展最好、潜力最大、韧性最足的国家之一。中国积极主张和支持多边主义和自由贸易的决心毫不动摇，坚持开放包容和合作共赢的步伐不会停止。前不久，中非合作论坛北京峰会在北京成功举办，50多个非洲国家领导人和20多个国际组织代表出席。峰会为促进发展中国家互帮互助、互利共赢树立了新典范，为推动全球治理体系改革、构建人类命运共同体做出了新贡献。面对新的国内外形势，中国发展的底气不断增强，信心和决心更加坚定。我们对中国的未来充满信心！」

“40 years of reform and opening up is 40 years of common development and progress between China and the world, and 40 years of in-depth development of Sino-British relations. Over the past 40 years, Sino-British relations have experienced storms and progress. In 2015, President Xi Jinping successfully visited the UK and opened the “Golden Age” of China-United Kingdom relations. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Theresa May visit to China was fruitful and accelerated the “golden age” of bilateral relations. China and Britain should always view bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, respecting each other’s core interests and major concerns, regard each other as opportunities rather than threats, enhance political mutual trust, expand interests, and promote bilateral relations to move forward along the right track. Both China and Britain are defenders of economic globalization and practitioners of trade liberalization. The two countries should demonstrate the responsibility and historical responsibility of the great powers, hold high the banner of multilateralism and open cooperation, jointly lead economic globalization and trade liberalization, work together to address global challenges and promote world peace and prosperity.”

He said: “China’s development and progress are linked closely to the destiny of overseas Chinese. The vast number of overseas Chinese compatriots has always cared about China, and they are the pioneers, participants, and contributors to China’s reform and opening up. China’s reform and opening up has achieved brilliant achievements. All overseas Chinese are indispensable. Today, Sino-British relations are inseparable from the support and active participation of the overseas Chinese. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of you.”
他表示：「中国的发展进步与海外侨胞的命运紧密相连。广大旅英侨胞始终情系桑梓，心系中华，是中国改革开放事业的开拓者、参与者和贡献者。中国改革开放事业取得今天的辉煌成就，包括旅英侨胞在内的全体海外华侨华人功不可没。今天中英关系更是离不开广大旅英侨胞的热情支持和积极参与。在此我向大家表示诚挚的谢意。」

“This year, the development of British overseas Chinese community is gratifying. The Spring Festival celebrations in London’s Trafalgar Square, Birmingham and Cambridge have been climaxed. The number of Chinese candidates for local elections in the UK has set a record, and the response to the World War I Chinese series has been enthusiastic. The activities of the overseas Chinese community to help the motherland’s construction, promote China-United Kingdom cooperation, promote Chinese culture, and promote the harmony of overseas Chinese society are notable. In October next year, the 15th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Conference will be held in London. With the theme of “New Opportunities for Chinese Businessmen”, it will surely become a grand event for the Chinese businessmen to participate in the grand celebration and cooperation, and we are full of expectations.”
