Introduction

Huangguoshu National Park is located in Anshun, Guizhou province, about 128 kilometers from Guiyang, the provincial capital. The park is renowned for the Huangguoshu Waterfall, the largest in Asia, which draws visitors worldwide. The waterfall is an impressive 77.8 meters high and 101 meters wide, offering a breathtaking natural spectacle.

The park is situated in an area inhabited by the Buyi and Miao ethnic groups and features a unique karst landscape. Its name, Huangguoshu, comes from the Huangguo tree, a plant native to the region. A highlight of the park is the 134-meter-long water-curtain cave behind the waterfall, where visitors can touch the cascading water and see rainbows on sunny days.

Geography

Huangguoshu National Park is nestled in the diverse landscapes of Guizhou province in Southwest China. The park’s karst landform is known for its unique geological formations, shaped over millennia. The area features rugged terrain with rolling hills, deep valleys, and abundant water features.

The Huangguoshu Waterfall, located on the Baishui River, is part of a larger waterfall cluster recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind. This cluster includes Huangguoshu and 17 other waterfalls, creating a mesmerizing natural phenomenon. Other attractions in the park include the Stone Village, Tianxing Bridge, Dripping Shoal, Balinghe River Valley, Red Cliff, Rhinoceros Pool (Doupotang), and the Huangguoshu Hotel.

Flora and Fauna

Huangguoshu National Park boasts diverse flora and fauna, contributing to its vibrant ecosystem. The park is home to the indigenous Huangguo tree and various plant species thriving in the karst landscape. In Huashishao village, downstream from the waterfall, 13 ancient banyan trees add a touch of mystique and history.

The park’s ecosystem supports a wide range of wildlife, providing habitats for numerous animal species. The presence of the Buyi and Miao ethnic groups adds cultural richness, with their traditional lifestyles harmoniously coexisting with the natural environment.

Huangguoshu National Park is a top tourist destination, celebrated for its stunning natural beauty and cultural richness. Designated an AAAAA scenic spot, the highest rating in China’s tourist attractions system, the park is known for its refreshing air and pleasant climate, with an average annual temperature of 16°C.

The park’s main attraction is the Huangguoshu Waterfall, Asia’s largest, which captivates visitors with its size and power. The water-curtain cave offers a unique vantage point to experience the falls up close. Other attractions include the scenic Stone Village, picturesque Tianxing Bridge, and serene Dripping Shoal.
